Honolulu Unveils Cummins-Powered Zero-Emission Bus

The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) has some electrifying news. They’ve unveiled the first of three 40-foot, zero-emission GILLIG buses. The battery-electric bus has seating capacity for 38 passengers and is powered by Cummins’ electrified powertrain.
For Honolulu, the unveiling represents a step toward their ambitious emissions-related goals and is a great value for the community, as it was funded by the FY2020 Low-No Emissions Bus Program. “Our administration set a bold goal to transform our public bus fleet to 100% renewable fuel by 2035, and we are now steps closer to achieving it,” said Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell. The DTS has purchased an additional 16 new electric buses this year and expects to take delivery of the vehicles through 2021.
For Cummins and GILLIG, this represents one more environmentally friendly achievement for the formidable partnership.
